When the outer fabric of your waterproof jacket starts soaking up water instead of shedding it, you lose up to 70% of the garment's breathability — even though the fabric itself is still waterproof. Nikwax TX.Direct restores that durable water repellency in one wash cycle, reviving performance without needing specialist equipment or chemicals.

Why we rate it

The wash-in application means the treatment reaches everywhere: through the fabric weave, along seams, across tapes and cords. You simply add 100ml per garment to your washing machine at 30°C on a slow spin, or hand wash in 7.5L of hand-hot water. It works on all breathable waterproof fabrics including Gore-Tex, and because it goes through the full garment in the wash, older or heat-sensitive pieces don't need tumble drying to set it — saving energy and fabric wear.

Nikwax formulate it PFAS-free (those "forever chemicals" that persist in the environment), and it's packed in 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. The bottle is carbon balanced too.

Who it's for

Anyone with Gore-Tex or other breathable waterproof jackets, ski trousers, gloves or sleeping bags that have absorbed water or lost their beading. Check your garment's care label first, but this works on almost everything. Always clean with Nikwax Tech Wash in a separate cycle before waterproofing.

From the fitting room: Always use Nikwax Tech Wash first in a separate wash to clean the fabric thoroughly; if the jacket's fairly new or recently treated, cleaning alone often restores the beading. Once garments have seen heavy use, then apply TX.Direct to add fresh water repellency.
