Skee-Tex boot sizes

Our boots are sized honestly: the size shown is what the boot actually fits, not the number moulded into the sole.

  • The number pressed into the sole is the size of the mould, not the finished boot with its liner in.
  • Between sizes, go up — the liner needs air around your foot to do its job, and a squeezed boot is a cold boot.
  • When the liner eventually tires, replace it rather than the boot, and the full rating comes back.

About the Skee-Tex Original Fishing Boot Large

The Skee-Tex Original Boot is a thermal fishing boot that works by reflecting your own body heat back to your foot through an aluminium liner, rather than relying on bulk insulation. Guaranteed waterproof and warm to −50°C, it's designed for anyone who stands still in extreme cold: bank anglers, farmers, and industrial workers. The same boot since 1950, made at the mill in Battlesbridge.

Why we rate it

The aluminium liner returns your body heat to you, so the boot stays warm even when stationary for hours. Unlike thick insulated boots that gradually lose warmth as you sit, this one works harder the longer you're motionless. The sole is a chevron-lug rubber that grips wet stone and mud. When the liner eventually tires, you replace it rather than bin the whole boot—these last decades.

Who it's for

Bank anglers standing in winter cold, farmers and mountain workers, anyone working in fish factories or cold stores. The Large fits UK 9–10. If you're between sizes, go up; the liner needs air around your foot to reflect heat properly, and a squeezed boot is a cold boot.

Key features

  • Neoprene upper — durable, flexible, holds its shape in extreme cold
  • Aluminium heat-reflective liner — bounces your own warmth back at your foot
  • Chevron-lug rubber sole — grips wet and muddy ground
  • Replaceable liner — when it wears, swap it for a new one rather than replacing the entire boot
  • Guaranteed to −50°C — 100% waterproof
  • Cuff closure — keeps water and mud out

Fit and feel

The boot is cut generously to accommodate the thermal liner and allow airflow around your foot. Sizing runs true to UK shoe size, but because the liner needs room to do its job, if you're between sizes, choose the larger. The neoprene is soft and flexible from day one, not stiff like some rubber boots.
