Thermally rated to −50°C, these waterproof neoprene boots use an aluminium heat-reflective liner to keep feet warm in extreme cold. Made in Essex since 1950, the liner can be replaced when it wears.
The Skee-Tex Original Fishing Boot is a thermal fishing boot rated to −50°C, designed for anyone who needs to keep still in bitter conditions. Built with an olive neoprene upper and a cream chevron-lug sole, it works through a principle that's remained unchanged for over 70 years: an aluminium heat-reflective liner inside the boot returns your body heat to your foot rather than letting it escape. Unlike thicker insulated boots that gradually lose warmth, this reflective system maintains temperature for hours.
This boot performs because of its engineering, not bulk. The aluminium liner is thin but effective, which means your foot has space to move and the boot breathes as much as a waterproof boot can. It's favoured by bank anglers and expedition workers who sit still for extended periods — the guarantee to −50°C has been tested in polar conditions and endorsed by explorers like Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
The chevron-lug sole gives grip on slippery banks and rocks without the stiffness of studded boots. In XLarge, it fits UK shoe sizes 11–12 generously, so there's room for thick socks and the liner to work properly.
Fishermen who fish cold water and need to sit still. Mountain workers, farmers, and anyone in freezing conditions where movement is limited. The generous fit means thicker winter socks work well; between sizes, go up rather than down so the liner has air around your foot.
The XLarge is a true UK 11–12. The boot is spacious through the foot and calf, which is intentional — the liner needs air around your foot to reflect heat effectively. A squeezed boot is a cold boot. The neoprene upper is flexible enough to walk in, though these are not walking boots; they're at their best when you're standing or sitting for hours. The navy foam cuff sits comfortably above the ankle.
From the fitting room: Between sizes, choose the larger one. Your foot needs room inside for the reflective liner to work, and thick winter socks to insulate further.
